A little disappointment, a little good news...

I had hoped to share a little free motion quilting project with you, but I am in need of an accessory for my home sewing machine.  After looking through my accessories, I realized I don't have a darning/free motion foot for either of my machines. Any quilting I have done in the past on my home machine has been geometric with a walking foot, so I plan to purchase a darning/free motion foot so that I can use one machine for free motion quilting and the other for sewing.

Good news though, I have separated the heart blocks from the borders they had. I counted 24 blocks and have separated them into four different groups.  I will need to decide if I want to put the similar blocks together, going from light to dark throughout the quilt, or just put them randomly together.  I've decided on black for the borders for this quilt.  I think having the dark borders will hi-lite each block and give them their own showcase, as each block was made by a different person and has their signature on them.

I decided to keep these three blocks together and use them as a wall hanging. The borders look blue in this picture but they are actually a dark purple.

Here are a couple of pictures that were taken in the past day or so.

I caught this beautiful sunset while traveling west yesterday.

I'm always amazed at the beauty in a sunrise or sunset.  I like the way the trees are silhouetted in foreground.

Earlier today I noticed a flock of birds fly by the kitchen window, then the flock landed in my front yard, road, and pasture across the road.   David was able to sneak out of the house and catch a picture of them for me.

I'm not sure what kind of bird they are. Though you can't see it in this picture, when looking at the darker birds at the right angle in the sunlight, they had blue tint to them.

The smell of popcorn is in the air, as Audre has fixed her a bag.  It has made me munchy, so I'm going to sign off and get a snack and something to drink.

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Hugs,
Sonia

Need your thoughts...

Hi, as you can see I have changed the template for my blog.  Please look it over and give me your thoughts.
Is the font easy to read?  If not please let me know and I will change it.

It's hard to believe the month is almost over and February will be here.  I have started removing the borders from the heart quilt blocks.
I sat in my sewing room last night ripping out seams, wondering what have I got myself into?  The thought didn't last long though, as I'm determined to put all the blocks in one quilt top instead of the different small projects I had started and not finished.
So, one stitch at a time I will continue on until it is done.

Please don't forget to give me your thoughts on the new font I'm using.

Hugs,
Sonia

New 'do

I decided I needed a change.

So I went to the beauty salon.

I sat through having a lot of rollers put in my hair, it felt like a hundred but I didn't count.  :) Thankfully I took a good book to read while I waited for everything to set and come together.  An hour and thirty minutes later I was ready to go.

It has been around 18 years since I last had a perm in my hair.  I like the change.

What do you think?

Then later today I pulled out some of the "UFOs" I have and decided what to do with them.

Several years ago I won the block of the month at a quilt guild meeting.  Over the years I have got them out and played with them, putting some together with borders, thinking I would use them for wall hangings, pillows, table runners, or what ever.

After laying them out today, I decided to take the borders off all the blocks and use a dark border like black or dark navy to put them all together. I will then use the strips from the borders taken off to make a small quilt.

Here they are laid out on the bed. There are more blocks to the side that are not in this picture.  It's times like this that I wish I had a big design wall.

Good news!  I did in fact get the lime quilt done.  You can see it on the quilt tab.

Until next time,

Hugs,
Sonia

Happy Birthday!

Today was my mother's birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!

I thought peanut butter cookies would be good and took some over to share with her and dad for her birthday.

I tried my hand at crocheting a ruffle scarf for her birthday gift.  You can see a picture of it on the Crochet Etc. tab.  The color is one of Mom's favorite.

Then as I was getting a birthday card ready for her, the front of the card separated from the back.  So I decided to make her card.

I used the front that came off the original card. The watercolor picture was done by Elizabeth Glass.  I think it is a very pretty picture.

David gave me some calligraphy pens for Christmas and I decided to write my own message for the card.  I added lace and a bow with buttons and put my signature on the back.

I know that I mentioned in an earlier blog that I would be working on the lime colored quilt to get it done... I have been, but it is not done yet.  I have Monday off and plan on finishing it up.  So hopefully tomorrow I will have a picture of it to show you.

Hope all is going well for you and yours.

Sonia

It's not Thursday?!

You know you are in trouble when you think your close to the weekend, only to realize you have been a day ahead.

That can make for a long week, but hopefully I won't be thinking it's Friday tomorrow.

Changing it up...

Hi, it has been a very cold and wet day.  It started out with ice.  YUCK!

I really don't like cold and ice.

Anyway... besides staying warm, I've been working on a shirt of mine.  It was a little too short in the length for my tastes and the sleeves were between 3/4 and full length, so I decided I would try to change it up a bit and fix those things.  If it didn't work out I would cut it up and use it for something else.

Here's the shirt to begin with.

I decided to add a collar, front and back flaps to lengthen it, and cuffs to the sleeves, to wear rolled up or down.   It has a scoop neck and I think a string of pearls will go nicely with it.  :)

Well, I nee to ge a cu o coffee an tynol...
that's yawn-ese for I need to get a cup of coffee and extra strength Tylenol for a headache that is coming on. :)

I have updated the Crochet tab and the My Walk tab.

Here's wishing you a good night's sleep and a great day tomorrow.

Sonia

2015 starting out...

Hi, I trust you had a Happy New Year's day.  :)

I used the time off to take down the Christmas decorations.  Now my house seems bare.  It always feels like that for a few days after the decorations are put away.  I'm happy to say I was able to organize all the decorations, including tree and big wreath, to where I can store them in the house instead of the attic, that is accessed from outside under the carport.  I decided to do this because to be honest my husband and I are not getting any younger and I don't want to have to climb up the ladder to the attic space to pull it all down in the future.

I had some decorative sand and glass stones, so I decided to try making a light with them.  Here's what I came up with.

I had sand left over and decided to use in for a floral arrangement.

You may have notice two of the tabs at the top of page are no longer there. I decided to drop the What Is It? and the Giveaways pages.  I just had trouble keeping them up to date.

One of my goals for this year is to read the Bible through.  Though I read the Bible every day last year I did not read the entire Bible.  My 2015 daily organizer has a reading plan to read the entire Bible during the year.

Another goal is to start on a quilt for my and David's bed.  I have been meaning to make a quilt for our bed for several years but haven't done it yet.  So, I'm going to get started on it this year.  Not sure if I'll get it done, but I will be working on it.  I'll share more about it as I get started.  I have a small quilt I need to finish first.  It is the lime green one I showed a couple of month's ago with the pink stars.  I plan to tie it and finish it this weekend.

I've set only the two goals for this year.  I think I will have better success than if I were to have several goals.  I figure everything else will fall in place.  :)

What goals have you set?

Hugs,
Sonia
